dictation's Diaryland Diary

I'll be modestly alright and that's better than I ever expected

The meeting of the tenants wasn't half bad although there was no specific outcome. It was good to meet and get a load off our chests.

A few funny ideas emerged. For instance, the fellow who lives in apt 801 is the property owner's son. He's been getting the royal treatment during the repiping project apparently. i.e. his apt was refinished in 4 days; the rest of us are enduring 16+ days of construction. So I offered to photocopy the number 801 for the 43 apartments that aren't 801 and post the number on every door. In addition to making a statement it will drive our "resident manager" aka lazy-whinyass-do-nothing-no-talent custodian crazy. Apparently several tenants have been posting nasty comments about the lack of service in the building, so LWADNNT custodian prowls through the building after hours to tear them down. It's one way to get him off his beer-guzzling duff.

I asked the lawyer-in-training what he thought of my web site idea (a web site where tenants could bitch about this company) and he told me I could get into legal trouble so ditch that one.

He proposed that we launch a group action against the company for common concerns. If this is possible I will participate.

I got excellent news today. I can't share it though. It's to do with money. It's nothing hugely exciting, but it looks like I'll be taken care of past work and I can also retire early. An HR person did some calculations for me. The amount of money I'll get doesn't even include my RRSPs. I plan to stay alive on this golden handshake until I'm well past 120.

Galpal L is kicking my ass to phone my bank so I must do it this weekend. I really have got to start looking for something to buy. I'm not going to move out until I have bought something. I've decided renting isn't an option that makes sense anymore with the interest rates this low. My monthly expenses including maintenance fees on a condo would be considerably LESS than rent anywhere in this city, with the exception of where I'm living now. So I'm going to stay put until I have an apt I can call my very very own. In-suite laundry and marble countertops, a fireplace and new hardwood floors, a sunken tub and a jacuzzi...yesh! Or at least I hope it's yesh! I want a view too. Or a great balcony.

The point is it will be mine, and I should have a large chunk of the mortgage paid off before I retire, unless I decide to flip it. And you know what? If it appreciates quickly I just might. Because people are making big bucks flipping real estate in this city.

But what am I saying? I haven't even phoned a bank yet.

Odd...I've never been good at money particularly but suddenly everything's falling into place.

Sure, I'm going to end up a bag lady. At HOLT'S.

Carry my bags to the car, dahling?
