dictation's Diaryland Diary

golden is never olden

Two films that pre-date postmodern film technology and blow all of the fancy-schmancy computerized stuff right out the window:

Bullit (a timeless, beautifully executed thriller from 1968. The two-Mustang car chase at speeds of up to 115 mph through San Francisco's hilly streets will hold up forever. At one point I actually got dizzy watching. Steve McQueen did all his own stunts and all of the driving.)

The Conversation (from 1974 featuring Gene Hackman and Harrison Ford, and strangely, Cindy Williams who exudes a perfect innocence, is a masterpiece of direction and acting. Eerie, incredible from the opening shot. Who makes movies like this anymore? Harrison Ford looks all of eighteen years old, but every molecule of your eyeballs will be on Hackman who is a genius.)
